High Point, NC, Closes Case with ONESolution RMS
When tragedy strikes, technology and detective work combine to solve crimes and provide closure. For the High Point Police Department, quick thinking and state-of-the-art software helped solve a hit-and-run in a matter of hours.
“It was around 2 p.m. when dispatch received a 911 call regarding a hit and run victim,” said Linda Hodgson, Police Information and Technology Manager for the High Point Police Department. “Responding officers located a tail light cover with an imprinted serial number.”
Armed with the serial number, police technicians were able to track down the make and year range of the vehicle.
Using the make and age information, officers and police technicians leveraged the powerful ONESolution Records Management System (RMS) to complete a search of vehicles in the area that matched the information gathered at the crime scene.
“Within minutes, ONESolution RMS narrowed the search to a single vehicle registered to an address less than a mile from the accident scene,” said Ms. Hodgson. “Officers were dispatched to the suspect’s address where they found evidence of the vehicle’s involvement.”
ONESolution RMS allows public safety agencies to collect, store and access information from a centralized database. This critical system provides access to all information gathered by law enforcement in the course of daily activities.
“Thanks to ONESolution and our technician’s quick thinking, the High Point Police Department was able to make an arrest in two hours,” said Ms. Hodgson.
